April 29, 2026. Avelo AG is pleased to share that Prof. Dr. Michael Osthoff from University Hospital Basel presented real-world clinical results for AveloMask at ESCMID Global 2026 in Munich, one of the world's leading conferences in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.
The data, generated in a prospective two-center study (AeroCAP) with 63 adults with confirmed lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs), showed that AveloMask breath aerosol PCR:
Detected the dominant LRTI pathogen in 85% of patients, with a specificity of 100%
Provides a practical sampling option when sputum is unavailable
Is well-tolerated by patients with pneumonia
Is compatible with commercial multiplex PCR platforms
The findings reinforce the value of non-invasive breath sampling for patients who cannot produce sputum, a group that is frequently excluded from conventional diagnostics. A full manuscript is in preparation. Stay tuned.
